Onyx Hollis Gravel Loop

Onxy Hollis Gravel Loop

This is a great gravel route in the Ouachitas.  A great starting point is the Onyx Church just south of the SR27 and SR314 intersection.   You can ride this route in either direction.   The trip takes you along the South Fourche LaFave River and you cross many of its tributaries.  There are only a few high ridge vistas available but the mountains and visible ridges are enough to keep your interest in the ride.   This route does not have a lot of traffic except during gun deer season.  You will have to navigate a short section of SR7 but there is a decent shoulder for most of the few miles.  Get a sandwich at the Hollis Store.

Distance:  42 miles

Climbing:  1651 Feet

Surface:  Forest roads, county roads and state highways.

Safety:  Road conditions depend on weather conditions.  There are concrete fords that are passable a reasonable amount of time after a rain.  There are a few blind corners on some of the faster downhill sections.
